1. Use low-VOC paint: Choose low-VOC (volatile organic compound) paint, which emits fewer harmful chemicals into the air.
2. Choose sustainable flooring: Use eco-friendly flooring options, such as natural stone or reclaimed wooden tiles, etc. If you can work with the contracting team, you can even creatively upcycle broken or split tiles or natural stones into the flooring
3. Use natural light: Make the most of natural light in your home by opening up windows and using sheer curtains, which allow more light to come in. This is another way to reduce dependency on artificial light.
4. Use energy-efficient lighting: Replace your traditional incandescent bulbs with LED bulbs, which use significantly less energy and last longer.
5. Use sustainable materials and furniture: Consider selecting furniture using sustainable materials, such as bamboo, reclaimed wood, or recycled materials, for your furniture and decor.
6. Procure from local furniture makers and craftspeople: Choose furniture pieces designed and crafted by local artisans. While this will ensure you have local aesthetic and price advantage, you can also support local crafts and artisans
7. Invest in energy-efficient appliances: When selecting or replacing appliances, choose ones that are energy-efficient to reduce your electricity consumption and save money on your energy bills.
8. Use sustainable textiles: Choose sustainable textiles for your curtains, upholstery, and bedding, such as organic cotton, linen, or hemp, so the carbon impact of textiles is minimized.
9. Use eco-friendly cleaning products: Switch to eco-friendly cleaning products that are free from harsh chemicals and reduce the amount of toxins released into the environment. This will help upkeep your furniture and surface materials, but also ensure no harmful chemicals are introduced into the sewage systems or ground water systems.
10. Use plants: Bring some greenery into your home by using indoor plants, which not only add beauty but also purify the air.
11. Donate old items: Donate old items or furniture to local communities. While the local community gets an immediate benefit, this will also reduce the transportation costs or efforts for you.
